There are plenty of expensive restaurants in New York City where you can find dinner for two for the price of a month’s rent.
But today I’m going to talk about a casual restaurant chain in the city where the food is solid, the prices are really reasonable, and the Texas-sized frozen margaritas really are as big as Texas: Dallas BBQ's.
There are seven of 'em in New York, six in Manhattan and one lonely location in Brooklyn. The one we always seem to frequent is in the East Village, on 2nd Ave at St. Mark’s Place/8th Street:
My particular favorite menu item, dating back to my days when I was a broke grad school student, is the half chicken platter with cornbread. Only $6.99. I don’t think they’ve changed that price in years. Their burgers and fries are solid too.
But of course you must order a margarita, and heck if you’re in NYC, why not make it the biggest one they’ve got. Never mind the irony that you’re spending more on your drink than your dinner (at least if you order the chicken platter...). It’s worth it.
We’ve already talked about how you should never visit New York in the summer. But on a warm autumn NYC evening, come here, sit out on the sidewalk, knock back a huge margarita and watch the city go by with increasingly blurred vision.
