NEVER Visit New York City in the Summer

The best months of the year to visit New York are September, October, April and May.

I feel terrible for the poor tourists down here, tromping around the Financial District and the Seaport during the brutal heat of July and August. Usually everybody's flushed beet red, stumbling around and worn out. They look like they don't know what hit them, and nobody's having any fun.

I know this is the time of year when kids are out of school and thus it's a logical time for families to visit the city, but don't do it. It is not worth the suffering.

If you HAVE to visit NYC during the summer, at least try for June. Early June.

Who wants to come to New York to experience that ubiquitous rotten garbage smell? To feel the blasts of roasting hot air from building exhaust fans?

And the subway system? Fuggetaboutit. A Dantean descent into hell.

It's just no fun to wander the streets of NYC at this time of year.
