The tourists in New York City always stick out like sore thumbs because they're always spraining their necks looking up at all the tall buildings. In the financial district, the buildings are particularly imposing.
When many of the buildings were built in downtown, the idea of requiring "building setbacks" didn't really exist. Instead, because space was so limited, it was all about going vertical. Worse, lower Manhattan has really narrow streets compared to, say, Midtown. Thus the entire area down here has this cavernous feel about it.
These shots were taken fairly early in the morning, but even at noontime around here you rarely see the sun.
